The Best Views in Edinburgh
Below, I have listed where to find the best viewpoints in Edinburgh, with photos! Underneath the list, I’ve also shared a handy Google Map of all the locations I mention, to help you plan your route!
The Vennell Viewpoint
The Vennell Viewpoint offers one of the best views of Edinburgh Castle. It is tucked away down a little street, so it would be easy to miss.
Luckily, I’d seen this viewpoint on Instagram and knew I really wanted to visit it! It’s not too hard to find if you know where to look, but you probably wouldn’t just happen to pass it.
It is worth looking for, as the view of the castle is just beautiful! This viewpoint is also completely free!

The View from Edinburgh Castle
Of course, Edinburgh Castle is the main attraction in Edinburgh, and it is definitely worth visiting. Not only is it a great experience, but the views from Edinburgh Castle looking over the city are amazing!
If you’d like to visit Edinburgh Castle, you should book in advance. The best place to buy tickets is on their website, linked here.
Tip: If you dont want to pay to go inside the castle, you can also get good views from the top of the hill, just outside the entrance to the castle.

The View from the Top of Calton Hill
It’s a short climb to the top of Calton Hill, and it’s definitely worth it! This is another completely free viewpoint in Edinburgh where you can see panoramic views over the city.
To get to the top only takes about 10 minutes. If you’re looking for a higher viewpoint, you could also try Arthur’s Seat. With a toddler, I didnt fancy this hike, but I’m sure it would be worth it!

The View from Princes Street Gardens
Princes Street Gardens is a lovely park. The views of Edinburgh Castle from the park are really worth checking out. My favourite spot was at Ross Fountain, looking up towards the castle on the hill.
This is a perfect photo spot to capture a memory of your trip to Edinburgh!
