PHILADELPHIA – THINGS YOU NEED TO DO

Philadelphia City Hall

Philadelphia is a small but beautiful city in Pennsylvania. There’s a lot of history here and some stunning architecture! For a small place, there’s also quite a lot to do so I’d definitely recommend a couple of days here.

Another thing that’s really great about Philadelphia is, a lot of the main tourist things are free! Personally, I always love free things!

Read on for a list of all the things you need to do when you’re in Philadelphia!

Things you need to do in Philadelphia

Independence Hall

Independence Hall is a beautiful red brick building. Tours take about half an hour and are free! If you’re visiting in summer, you may want to book your tour to save waiting in line. You can do this online for a small admin fee.

The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were both debated and signed here. There is a lot of history in the building which your tour guide will tell you more about!

The Liberty Bell

The Liberty Bell

If I’m honest, the Liberty Bell is not actually that impressive. However, It is free to go to the museum and The Liberty Bell really is something you should see when you’re in Philadelphia!

Even if you don’t go into the museum, you can see the bell through the glass windows and hear a brief history by pressing the interactive buttons. (Available in multiple languages).

City Hall

In my opinion, the most beautiful building in Philadelphia. I’m not sure if you can inside but it’s definitely worth walking around the outside and seeing it from all angles!

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Walk down Benjamin Franklin Parkway from City Hall to the Museum of Art. When we did it, it was pouring rain but still a lovely walk!

The museum of art is HUGE and the building is really impressive! I think this is a must-see place!

I didn’t go in but if you’d like to, find all the info HERE.

The Rocky Statue

The Rocky films were filmed in Philadelphia! There’s a statue in tribute to Rocky located just next to the museum of Art.

I was actually expecting the statue to be a bit more impressive but I did really like the quote on it! You can easily see it if you go to the Museum of Art.

Reading Terminal Market

A large indoor market. You’ll find all sorts of food vendors here as well as gifts and groceries. This is a good place to stop for some food, although it can get quite crowded!

Philadelphia Old City

Wander the Old City

There are so many pretty little buildings to see here. Cobbled streets and red brick houses gave me a bit of an England vibe!

I really wish I’d taken more photos here!

Franklin Square

We visited in February, but I imagine, in the summer this will be a lovely open space. There’s a fountain as well as a playground, mini-golf course and a carousel.

That concludes my list of things to do in Philadelphia. I hope you have fun checking them out while you’re there!
