Eden Resort Albufeira Review: The Best Family-Friendly Hotel In Portugal?

Review of the Eden Resort in Albufeira Portugal

If you’re looking for the perfect family-friendly hotel in the Algarve, Eden Resort Albufeira (also called Eden Villas and Apartments) is an amazing choice. We recently stayed here as a family and really loved it. It has spacious apartment-style rooms, fantastic pools and plenty of kids’ entertainment. Located just outside Albufeira town centre, this resort is a great base for exploring the area while enjoying the comforts of a relaxed, village-style setting.

In this honest review, I’m sharing exactly what to expect at Eden Resort in Albufeira, especially if you’re travelling with children.

Where is the Eden Resort Albufera Located?

Albufeira is located along the coast in the beautiful Algarve region of southern Portugal. The Eden Resort, Villas and Apartments are about a mile from the centre of Albufeira’s Old Town.

The hotel provides a handy shuttle to and from the town centre, which only takes about 5 minutes each way. The shuttle did fill up quickly, so line up slightly early to ensure you get on it.

It is also possible to walk to and from the Old Town, the walk takes about half an hour, but coming back, the hill is quite steep. I wouldn’t recommend doing it with kids in hot weather!

Eden Vills and Apartments Accommodation Review

The Eden Resort in Albufeira is beautifully set out with many pastel coloured villas. Some you can rent as full villas that have up to 4 bedrooms, accommodating up to 8 guests with private pools. These would be perfect for a large family or for two families travelling together.

Other villas are set up as 4 separate apartments. This is what we stayed in. As our children are young, we opted for a one-bedroom apartment, which had a sofa bed. They also provided a free cot (crib) for our little one. The sofa bed was as comfortable as a proper bed (unlike some we’ve had in Airbnb’s previously. The main bed was also very comfortable.

The apartments are very spacious and nicely presented with modern decor. The kitchen was equipped with all the basic cooking utensils you would expect. The only thing missing was a coffee machine, but there was a kettle.

Finally, the downstairs apartments have gardens and the upstairs ones have nice balconies.

Each villa also has free parking spaces close by if you’re travelling by car.

The Pools at The Eden Resort

I already mentioned that some villas have their own private pools. If you don’t want to splurge on the full villa with private pool, no worries. The resort has four other pools available to guests.

Firstly, the kids’ pool. This was the main selling point of the Eden Resort. I showed our 5-year-old multiple hotel options, and when he saw the pirate ship, he had to go there! The kids’ pool is well laid out with a splash pad, a small toddler pool and slide for little ones and a bigger kids’ pool with a pirate ship slide and a bouncy inflatable for older kids.

There is also another outdoor family pool and an adults-only pool. None of the three outdoor pools are heated. This was the only negative I had from our stay. Visiting in April, the pools were very cold. Our two-year-old couldn’t stay in for long without shivering, but our 5-year-old didnt seem bothered by it! If you’re visiting in the summer months, I don’t think the chill would be n issue.

Lastly, the hotel also had an indoor pool. This pool was heated and perfect for my kids to practice swimming in. This pool needed to be booked to control how many people could swim at a time. You got a 45-minute session, but they would let you stay longer if it wasn’t busy. You also need to wear a swim hat in there. They sell them on-site for €5, or you can bring your own.

If you’re visiting outside of the summer months, I would highly recommend choosing one of the Resorts in Albufeira that have an indoor or heated pool.

Other Family-Friendly Facilities

The Eden Resort in Albufeira boasts a wide range of family-friendly facilities and activities. Making it, in my opinion, one of the best family hotels in Albufeira. Aside from the pools, there is a small playground and a kids’ club. We didnt leave our kids in the kids’ club, but we did see it, and it looked fun.

They also have football and tennis tournaments, which are perfect for older kids and family-friendly activities such as bingo and a children’s disco.

What really sets the Eden Resort apart from other resorts in Albufeira is this cool circus tent they use for entertainment. My boys loved staying up late for the children’s disco in here, they even had people on stilts welcoming them in! They also do a magic and pirate show in the tent. Unfortunately, my kids are early risers and didnt stay awake late enough for us to watch these.

You can see the full schedule of kids’ activities by clicking here.

There is also a Spa, offering a wide range of treatments, including a family massage!

Food & Dining Review

When booking the Eden Resort, you can opt for all-inclusive or self-catering. We chose self-catering as we were aiming for a mix of relaxing and exploring on our trip.

If you choose all-inclusive, all the food and drinks you’ll need are available on site. The meals were buffet style and looked pretty standard, although I didnt see them closely.

If you opt for self-catering, you can still pay to eat in the on-site resteraunts should you wish. Alternatively, the resort has its own store selling all the basic food items (including suncream and swim goggles, etc, if you forgot to pack them!) It’s not the cheapest store, but it is convenient. If you have a car, there are Aldi and Lidl supermarkets a 5-minute drive away, which have more options.

Another option is to eat in Albufeira itself. Old Town Albufeira is very touristy and has plenty of options, even for picky eaters. There were many resteraunts with reasonable prices and lots that had €6 happy hours that lasted most of the day!

Final Thoughts from Our Eden Resort Albufeira Review

We loved our stay at The Eden Resort in Albufeira, Portugal. It is well presented and has everything you need on site, but it is also close to the town and the beach.

There are plenty of activities to keep kids entertained and have fun for the whole family to enjoy.

The only slight negative for us visiting in April was that the outdoor pools were pretty cold; it would have been nice if the kids’ pool had been heated! Luckily, the indoor pool was heated and we had great fun in there!
