First Impressions: Lobby, Check-In, and Atmosphere

This is a luxury hotel; from the moment you arrive, you are treated like royalty. A doorman will open the door for you, and a porter will take your bags. Staff were friendly not only to my husband and I, but to our children as well. Asking their names and how their day has been.

The hotel is beautifully decorated and has a really premium feel to it.

Check-In was an easy process. It was extra special for our children as they were each given their own keycard for the room. It was a wooden card in the shape of a frog, which they loved so much!

They also got given a Children’s Passport, which was for them to take around the hotel with them and collect stamps from different areas, such as the pool, the restaurant and the bar. These little touches were really sweet for young children.

The Rooms at Park Hyatt London River Thames

We stayed in the Deluxe Park Suite with River View, with a connecting Twin Room with River View.

The rooms are beautifully designed and finished to a high standard.

The twin room was set up for the children. They had added a fun tepee-style play tent covered in fairy lights for them to enjoy. Inside the tent, there was a selection of books and games for them to play with as well as complimentary toiletries. They also had a cupcake each and a fruit bowl on the table.

Thoughtful room set up for families

As my children are young, I had requested bed guards to stop them from falling out during the night, and these were already set up. Baby cots are also available on request.

The main suite had a large living room area, with an open plan living, dining, and welcome treats for the parents.

The living area leads on to a spacious bedroom, with a huge comfy bed. All the rooms had gorgeous city views over the River Thames.

Both rooms had their own bathrooms with both showers and bathtubs, and tea & coffee making facilities.

One other detail of this hotel that my kids absolutely loved was the touch-activated toilets. The toilet seats are heated, and you can use the touch screen next to the toilet for all sorts of additional features. As a mum of two little boys, I can confirm, they have never been so keen to use the bathroom!

Dining Options: Restaurants and Breakfast

The hotel has three restaurant options and a separate bar area. The first is called The Magic Table, which is an immersive magic dining experience. This experience starts at £145 per person and should be booked in advance. This is suitable for children aged 10 and above.

Secondly, there is a new Yú Gé – Cantonese Cuisine restaurant and finally, The Nine Elms Kitchen. This one has a dedicated children’s menu, so it is where we chose to eat.

Again, in the restaurant, the staff were incredibly friendly and good with our children. Many of them have children themselves. The boys got specially designed activity books in the hotel’s frog theme and pencils to keep them busy.

The food is all freshly prepared, and you can see the chefs cooking in the centre of the restaurant. Everything we ate was delicious, and we had a lovely family meal.

We had breakfast included in our booking, which was also served in the Nine Elms Kitchen. Breakfast is a buffet with an additional choice of main and two sides from the breakfast menu. This includes the usual favourites, such as a full English, eggs Benedict, pancakes and waffles.

The buffet has a small selection of additional hot food, a vast selection of pastries, yoghurts, fruits, cereal, and more. We would have liked to be able to eat more; it was so good.

Unfortunately, there is no children’s menu for breakfast. My children happily ate the majority of adult-sized pancakes and even extra berries that the host kindly offered them.

Breakfast is £28 if you just have the buffet or £38 for the full breakfast menu.

As the suite was so nice, we also tried room service. Simply call to order from the special room service menu, and it will be delivered directly to you!

Facilities and Leisure: A London Hotel with a Pool

One of the things that really made my kids give the Park Hyatt London River Thames a glowing review is the huge 20 x 8 meter indoor, heated pool. It is open from 7 am to 9 pm, and children are welcome at any time between these hours.

My kids are early-risers, so we were there at around 7:30 each day for a pre-breakfast swim and had the pool to ourselves! Next to the pool are loungers with towels and bottles of water. Again, the lady at the wellness desk was incredibly friendly and gave my children mini robes, which were incredibly cute.

As you come out of the pool, there is a sauna which is complimentary for guests to use and a beautiful changing area with showers, lockers and hairdryers should you need them.

There is also a well-equipped gym, open 24 hours a day, that my husband enjoyed using.

Finally, there is a Spa. Spa treatments are at an additional cost (massages starting at £95) and should be booked in advance. You can see the pricelist and how to book on the website, linked here.

Location: South Bank of the Thames

As the name suggests, this hotel is located on the bank of the River Thames with many rooms offering river views. While it is in central London, it is not super close to a lot of the main tourist attractions. For Park Hyatt to be able to offer such spacious rooms and a large swimming pool, they needed a location slightly outside of the tourist centre.

Nine Elms is a really up-and-coming area which is currently seeing a lot of construction. Once this is completed, I think it will be a really great area for families.

If you’re visiting London as a tourist, it is extremely easy to get to the main tourist attractions from Park Hyatt London River Thames, and I will share more about that in the section below.

Exploring London from Park Hyatt London River Thames

The closest place of interest to Park Hyatt London River Thames, is Battersea (around a 20-minute walk or 10-minute bus), famous for the recently renovated Power Station and Battersea Park. While Battersea didn’t make it into my perfect 4 day London with kids itinerary, it is a great area and is becoming increasingly popular with tourists.

Other top London attractions are a little further away, for example, Buginham Palace is a 40-minute walk or 25 minutes on the tube, which is a fair distance with small children.

However, you also have Vauxhall Pier, which is less than 5 minutes walk away. From here, you can catch an Uber Boat by Thames Clipper; these boats are a really great way for families visiting London to get around, and you get incredible views from the River. My children love to ride the Uber Boat.

From Vauxhall Pier, you’ll be at Westminster Pier in under 10 minutes, right by the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and a short walk from Buckingham Palace. You also have the option to sail to Tower Pier, which takes around 35 minutes and brings you right to Tower Bridge and The Tower of London. See the full Uber Boat by Thames Clipper route planner here.

Is Park Hyatt London River Thames Good for Families?

So, in conclusion to our Park Hyatt River Thames review, is it a good hotel for families? Honestly, if you’re looking for a luxury hotel in London, it is a great choice. While I would love it to be a little closer to the main tourist sights, the room, facilities, special touches, and staff here will make your stay in London feel extra special.

One final thought I did have, as I was sitting looking out at the gloomy London skyline views from our suite, is that the weather in London is unpredictable. Especially in the winter, skys are grey, and it rains a lot. If you are unfortunate with the weather, being in a great hotel would make all the difference to families. This hotel feels like a treat in itself and is far preferable to all being cramped in a tiny hotel room covering from the rain!
