Everything You Need to Know About Angels Flight Railway

What is Angels Flight?

Angels Flight is the world’s shortest railway. In more detail, it’s a historic funicular railway in Downtown Los Angeles that connects Hill Street and Grand Avenue. Originally opened in 1901, it was designed to help people travel up and down the steep Bunker Hill. Though the ride lasts less than a minute, it’s become a beloved LA landmark, known for its bright orange cars and vintage charm. Today, it’s a fun, affordable stop for tourists and locals alike. This is a unique, inexpensive experience the whole family will love!

It has also been featured in several movies, probably most famously, La La Land.

Where is Angels Flight located?

You’ll find the Angels Flight Railway running up and down Bunker Hill in Downtown Los Angeles. The exact locations to get on and off can be found at:

The Top Station: California Plaza, 350 South Grand Avenue

The Lower Station: 351 South Hill Street

How Do You Get Tickets for Angels Flight?

As I mentioned, tickets are just $1! To make it even better value, our 3-year-old and baby were free. You can buy your ticket at either the top or the lower station from the ticket booth.

We bought return tickets ($2) as this gives you a cute little souvenir ticket to take home with you. Perfect for kids to put in a scrapbook or memory box.

If you love it, or if you’re an LA local, you can purchase a book of 40 tickets for $30.

The cars run up and down the vernacular. You need to get off and back on again, even if you’re going straight back down.

What Are The Opening Times?

The Angels Flight Railway is open daily from 6:45 am – 10 pm.

Tips for Riding Angels Flight Railway in Los Angeles with Kids

The cars are pretty narrow; they are not really designed for strollers. We always travel with our Joolz Aer+* stroller. It folds down quickly and easily and is cabin-approved, so very compact. We had no problem taking it on with us as it could be stored under the seat.

The website does say they have made adjustments for wheelchair users. If no wheelchair users are riding, they may let you put your stroller there. Ask in the Station House at the top platform.

Bonus Tip: Visit at an off-peak time. It wasn’t busy when we visited, so we got to sit in the front seats, which our toddler loved!
