Where to See Santa in London: The Best Santas Grottos & Experiences

One of our favourite Christmas traditions each year is taking our children to see Santa in London. There’s something particularly magical about seeing their faces when they visit Father Christmas and tell him what they’ve been hoping for.

There are so many great Santa’s grottos and other unique places to see the main man in London. We have tried quite a few of them out, and I’m going to share more details below. However, the best Santa experience for your family will depend on what you’re looking for. Some families may prefer a traditional grotto, while others might want something a little more unusual, with Christmas activities, festive entertainment or a beautiful London setting.

In this guide, I’ve rounded up the best places to see Santa in London, including traditional Santa’s grottos and some of the city’s more unique Father Christmas experiences, so you can find the one that’s right for your family.

The Best Santa Grottos in London

In this section of our guide, I’m going to share where to see Santa in a more traditional Santa’s grotto setting. There are lots of great options to choose from, so I will also share a bit about each one, allowing you to pick the best option for your children.

Hamleys Santa’s Grotto

One of the most iconic Santa’s grottos, right in the heart of London, is Hamleys on Regent Street. The famous toy shop is already a magical place to visit with children, and at Christmas it becomes even more festive when Santa and his elves take over the grotto.

We visited Hamleys’ Santa’s Grotto with our children, and it was a lovely way to start the Christmas season. The experience begins by meeting a Hamleys Elf who takes you into the magical elves’ workshop and then finally through a hidden door to meet Father Christmas. Children also receive a special gift bag to take home.

One thing I really liked about this visit to Santa was that the sessions are private, so it’s just your family inside. This made it feel extra special for our kids. Read more about Visiting Santa at Hamleys in our detailed review, linked here.

Top tip: Allow some extra time before or after your grotto visit to explore Hamleys itself. It’s particularly fun at Christmas, but the shop can also be extremely busy, so I’d factor that into your timings.

Santa’s Grotto at Winter Wonderland

If you’re already planning a visit to Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, you can add a visit to Santa’s Grotto without paying anything extra. The grotto is located in Santa Land, the family-friendly area of Winter Wonderland.

While Santa is free to visit, you will need to book tickets for Winter Wonderland itself. There are slots where you just pay a £1 booking fee for off-peak tickets, with some attractions inside costing extra. Unlike most of London’s Santa experiences, for this one, there is no separate ticket or advance booking required. Santa’s Grotto is free to enter and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with children even receiving a present from Santa.

Winter Wonderland itself can be extremely busy. On particularly busy days, the queue for Santa’s Grotto may be long, so I’d recommend going earlier in your visit rather than leaving it until the end of the day.

The Queen’s House, Greenwich Santa’s Grotto

The Santa’s Grotto at the Queen’s House in Greenwich is another magical Christmas experience. The adventure takes families on a festive journey through different extravagantly decorated rooms. Actors engage the children along the way before finishing with a meet-and-greet with Father Christmas.

We visited here the first Christmas it opened (2025), and we all had a wonderful time; it was clear that a lot of time and effort had been put into making it special. Personally, I felt like this experience was slightly rushed; I’m hoping they improve on that in the coming year. I also felt that the gifts from Santa were quite basic (a puzzle and a cheap game), although my children were very happy!

Anya’s Grotto

If your family is looking for something a little more luxurious, you may want to consider Anya’s Grotto, which takes place at Anya Hindmarch’s Village in Chelsea. This is a beautifully designed Christmas experience that looks rather different from the standard grotto.

Children embark on a magical journey through Anya’s winter wonderland. The experience includes faux snow, twinkling baubles and icicle caves before finishing with a festive story by the fire with Father Christmas.

Anya’s Grotto is recommended for children aged 2–8 and lasts around 30 minutes. Each child receives a gift from Father Christmas, and the experience is limited to nine guests per time slot, giving it a much smaller and more intimate feel than some of London’s larger Santa experiences.

It’s also worth knowing that Anya’s Village has a festive afternoon tea at Anya Cafe during the Christmas season, so you could combine the grotto with something festive to eat afterwards.

Victorian Santa’s Grotto at London Museum Docklands

If you’re looking for a more traditional Santa’s grotto, the London Museum Docklands is a lovely option. Santa’s grotto is set inside Sailortown, the museum’s recreated Victorian street, which is transformed with Christmas decorations for the festive season.

Children can walk through the historic-looking Sailortown before meeting Santa in his grotto. Each child receives a gift inspired by traditional Victorian toys and games, with minimal plastic used in the presents.

The experience itself is relatively short at around 15 minutes, but it is more budget-friendly than some of the other London Santas. It’s also a good option if you want to combine your Santa visit with a trip around the museum. The Docklands Museum is one of our favourites; read our full review here.

Father Christmas at Eltham Palace

For a Santa visit with a beautiful historic setting, head to Eltham Palace and Gardens in southeast London. Rather than a traditional grotto, the experience takes place at this spectacular medieval palace, making it a particularly atmospheric option for families.

Father Christmas begins with a group storytelling session, sharing some of his favourite seasonal stories with the children. Afterwards, families get the chance to meet him and take photographs before each child receives a traditional present to unwrap.

You can also make a full festive day of your visit by exploring Eltham Palace and its gardens, which have additional Christmas activities taking place during the same period.

Santa’s Grotto at FUJIFILM House of Photography

For something a little different, head to the FUJIFILM House of Photography in Covent Garden, where Santa takes over the photography store for a festive grotto experience.

The 30-minute experience combines a visit with Father Christmas with festive crafts, games and interactive activities. Children get a few minutes of one-to-one time with Santa before continuing with the other Christmas activities. Naturally, photography is a big part of the experience, and children receive a printed photo of their meeting with Santa as well as a teddy bear to take home.

I think this would be a particularly good choice for families who want something a little more interactive than simply meeting Santa. The Covent Garden location also makes it easy to combine the grotto with a wander around the Christmas market, festive decorations and the other attractions in the area.

Father Christmas at Fortnum & Mason

If you’re looking for a particularly special London Christmas experience, Fortnum & Mason’s Storytelling with Father Christmas is a must-add to your bucket list. Set inside the iconic Piccadilly department store, it’s a much more intimate experience than some of London’s larger Santa grottos.

The experience takes place in Fortnum’s beautiful Boardroom, where children can meet Father Christmas and enjoy a festive story. It’s a lovely option if you’re looking for something that feels a little more traditional and elegant, while still having the magic of a London department store at Christmas.

One important thing to know is that this books very early. I was hoping to take my own children to Fortnum & Mason this year, but wasn’t quick enough to secure tickets! If this is one you’d like to do, I’d recommend keeping an eye out for the ticket release and booking as soon as they go on sale, sometimes as early as August.

It’s also worth allowing time to explore Fortnum & Mason itself while you’re there. The Piccadilly store is particularly magical at Christmas, making this an easy experience to combine with some festive shopping and exploring the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations around Mayfair.

Unique Santa in London Experiences

If you’re looking for something a little different to a traditional Santa’s grotto. London has many great options that turn meeting Father Christmas into a much bigger festive day out. I will share these below.

The Polar Express Train Ride

If you’re looking for a Santa experience that feels like a real Christmas adventure, The Polar Express Train Ride is a magical option. Departing from London Euston, families board a real train for an immersive journey inspired by the much-loved Christmas story.

I’ve heard such lovely things about The Polar Express from other families, so we’re really excited to experience it for ourselves this Christmas. The journey brings the story to life with characters, festive entertainment, hot chocolate and cookies, and of course a very special visit from Father Christmas.

The experience is designed to feel like you’ve stepped inside the story, with children encouraged to get involved along the way. Santa’s visit is the highlight, with every child receiving a special first gift of Christmas.

OXBO Bankside Brunch with Santa

If you’d like to combine your visit to Father Christmas with a family meal, OXBO Bankside’s Brunch with Santa is a lovely option. We were invited to this last Christmas and really enjoyed it, and I particularly liked that we could combine two festive activities into one outing.

Rather than booking a separate Santa grotto and then finding somewhere to eat afterwards, you can meet Santa before enjoying a delicious family brunch. It makes for a relaxed festive morning and is a particularly good option if you have children who aren’t necessarily looking for a big, elaborate grotto experience.

We enjoyed the atmosphere at OXBO, and the boys loved the excitement of having Santa visit during our meal. For me, the biggest appeal was simply how easy it made the day, with no cooking or cleaning up for me!

It’s also in a great location for combining with other Christmas activities around Bankside and South Bank, so you could easily make a full festive day of it.

Santa in the Sky at the London Eye

If you’re looking to combine a Santa experience with one of London’s most iconic attractions, how about meeting Father Christmas high above the city on the London Eye?

Santa in the Sky begins with a VIP welcome before children can enjoy festive crafts, games and sweet treats. Families then board a beautifully decorated London Eye pod, where Santa joins them during the flight. As you travel above London, he’ll share stories and surprises before giving each child a special gift.

The experience is shared with other families, rather than being a private London Eye pod, so it’s worth bearing that in mind when booking.

Meet Santa in London Zoo

For children who love animals, London Zoo’s Meet Santa experience is a fun way to combine a visit to Father Christmas with a day out at the zoo.

The experience begins with Christmas crafts before children head into Santa’s magical grotto to meet Father Christmas and receive a Christmas gift. And, of course, you’re right in the middle of London Zoo, so you can spend the rest of the day visiting the animals.

For something even more unusual, the meet Santa penguin feed experience combines meeting Santa with the opportunity to feed the zoo’s penguins. (For ages 3+ only).

I think this is a particularly good option if you want to enjoy having a full day out rather than just a Santa visit. You can meet Santa in the morning and then spend the rest of the day exploring the zoo.

IFS Cloud Cable Car Santa’s Grotto

For a Santa experience with a difference, you can meet Father Christmas before taking a festive journey across the Thames on the IFS Cloud Cable Car.

The experience takes place at the Royal Docks, where children can meet Santa and his elves before boarding the cable car for a flight across the Thames. There are also festive activities to enjoy, making this more than simply a quick visit to Santa.

We’ve ridden the IFS Cloud Cable Car before, and really enjoyed it, but haven’t yet experienced the Santa’s Grotto. This is definitely a unique thing to do with children.

There are different ticket options available, so you can choose whether you simply want the Santa experience or would like to add extras such as a children’s activity pack and hot chocolate.

Santa’s Winter Garden at Fulham Palace

If you’re looking for a Santa experience that feels like a whole Christmas adventure rather than simply a visit to a grotto, Santa’s Winter Garden at Fulham Palace looks particularly magical.

For Christmas 2026, the historic walled gardens at Fulham Palace are being transformed into a snowy winter wonderland, with snow falling, sparkling lights and festive surprises around the gardens. The experience culminates in a private visit with Santa, where families can take photos, share their Christmas wishes and enjoy some special time with Father Christmas.

I spotted Santa’s Winter Garden while looking for some of the more unusual places to see Santa in London, and it immediately caught my eye, it looks extremely magical!

Fulham Palace itself is also a lovely place for a family day out, with 13 acres of gardens to explore, a historic house and a café, so there’s plenty to see and do around your Santa visit.

Tips for Visiting Santa in London

Here are a few tips for making the most of your visit to Santa this year.

Remember that Visiting Santa Isn’t for Every Child

Visiting Santa is meant to be magical, but not every child feels comfortable meeting a man they’ve never seen before dressed in a big red suit! Although my boys have always loved visiting Father Christmas, some children find Santa a little scary or overwhelming.

There’s absolutely no need to force it. If you don’t think your child is ready, there are plenty of other lovely ways to enjoy Christmas together. You Only Need to Choose One

There are so many wonderful Santa experiences in London that it can be tempting to book several, but honestly, one is enough!

Christmas can already feel overwhelming for children (and parents!), and the costs of festive activities can quickly add up. You don’t need to visit five different grottos to make Christmas special. Choose the experience that sounds most exciting for your family and enjoy it without feeling like you need to tick everything off the list.

Of course, if you want to do more, that’s completely fine as well.

Book your Santa in London Experience in Advance

The most popular Santa experiences can sell out surprisingly quickly, particularly the sessions at weekends and during the school holidays.

If there’s a particular grotto your child really wants to visit, I’d recommend booking as soon as tickets are released rather than leaving it until December.

Choose the Experience Around Your Child

As there are so many great options, think about which one your child will enjoy the most.

Would they love a traditional meeting with Santa? A train ride? Animals? Christmas crafts? A historic palace? Or perhaps a whole immersive adventure?

If your child finds crowds, noise or busy environments overwhelming, look out for relaxed, SEND or sensory-friendly sessions. These can make a huge difference to how enjoyable the experience feels for your child.

Think About the Timing

If you have a choice of times, think about when your children are likely to be happiest.

For younger children especially, I’ve found a morning Santa visit can be much easier than a late afternoon appointment when everyone is tired, hungry and ready for bed. And if you’re visiting somewhere like Winter Wonderland, remember that busy periods can mean longer queues.

Final Thoughts on Where to See Santa in London

There are so many great places to see Santa in London, from traditional Santa’s grottos to unique and immersive Christmas experiences.

Visiting Santa is one of the Christmas experiences I’m happy to spend money on. It’s something our whole family enjoys, and we know our children won’t be little enough to believe in the magic of Father Christmas forever. For me, that’s what makes these experiences worth doing while they’re young, it’s about creating those Christmas memories together.

That said, you absolutely don’t need to spend a lot of money to enjoy a visit to Santa. Winter Wonderland’s Santa’s Grotto is free, while the Victorian Santa’s Grotto at London Museum Docklands is another more affordable option.

And if you don’t think a visit to Santa is right for your children this year, don’t feel like you’re missing out. Christmas is about making memories that your family enjoys, and there are plenty of other wonderful festive things to do in London instead.
