A FAMILY-FRIENDLY LONDON GUIDE

Notting Hill is one of my favourite areas of London, famous for its beautifully coloured houses, Portobello Road and of course, the iconic film, Notting Hill. If you’re coming to visit London and have the time to visit Notting Hill, I would highly recommend it and I’m here to help you plan the perfect day. So read on for a perfect family-friendly day in Notting Hill London.

When we explore, it’s not fully kid-centric so you can enjoy this day with or without kids (skip the playground if you don’t have children!)

For reference, our boys were aged 4.5 and 16 months when we did this day out.

A perfect family day in Notting Hill London

A DAY IN NOTTING HILL LONDON ITINERARY

GETTING THERE

I researched the best streets to visit before we went, the route I wanted to do started at Notting Hill Gate. We took the London underground there. Unfortunately, this is not an accessible station, so we had to get the pushchair (stroller) up two escalators and some steps.

The closest accessible station is Shepherds Bush which is a 20-minute walk away. Or there are bus options depending on where you’re travelling from.

If you’re coming to visit London and plan on using the underground a lot, I’d recommend a lightweight travel pushchair. We LOVE our Joulz Aer+ and you can READ MY FULL JOULZ AER+ REVIEW HERE. On this occasion, we actually used our everyday pushchair (UppaBaby Vista, which I also highly recommend!)

COLOURFUL HOUSES

This was a mummy activity. I love the pink, the cuteness and wandering the streets of London. I’m going to share the route we took below, surprisingly, our 4-year-old really enjoyed looking around as well. We timed this for our 1-year-old morning nap as I knew he wouldn’t love being in the pushchair for an hour.

Above is the exact route we took and this takes you around the most beautiful streets and colourful houses.

If you want to simplify this route, I’d suggest Farm Place and the surrounding roads (Uxbridge Street and Callott Street) These were our favourites, then head straight to Elgin Crescent.

Kid Tip: There is a very sweet playground at Colville Square, we stopped here to break up the walk for our 4-year-old.

Lancaster Road is a short walk from Ladbrook Grove underground (also to an accessible stop) if you want to end your tour here. However, we decided to walk back down Portobello Road to Holland Park.

SNACK BREAK

There are plenty of cafes to stop at. Freddie (aged 4) saw Doughnut Time and practically dragged us in there. He loves a doughnut! They wouldn’t usually be my first choice but this one was so good!

Just next door is the bookshop used in filming the movie Notting Hill which is pretty cool.

PORTOBELLO ROAD / MARKET

Note: Portobello market does not open on Sundays, which was when we visited. If you’re keen to see the market, avoid Sundays. It’s also important to note, that with the market comes big crowds. As our little one has just started walking, it was a relief for it to be less busy.

We plan to return to Notting Hill and see the market another time!

HOLLAND PARK

Holland Park is one of London’s Royal Parks and ever so beautiful! After our walk, we were all hungry so we picked up a picnic from the Tesco Express just by the park and ate on the lawn.

Wander through the park and enjoy the beautiful Dutch and Kyoto Gardens.

Of course, this is a family-friendly guide so we had to visit another playground. The Adventure Playground in Holland Park is fantastic. it’s aimed at kids 5+ but our 4-year-old had a blast! There is also a Toddler Playground which is much more suitable for toddlers!

A BRITISH PUB

London wouldn’t be complete without a drink in a pub. The Churchill Arms is a cool-looking pub but the menu is Thai, which is strange for a British pub. We chose The Miter and managed to get an outside table (it was a beautiful sunny day).

Kid Tip: get them dinner while you enjoy your drink. They sit much more nicely when they’re eating!

Their fish and chips went down well and so did my cocktail!
