Le Tréport, France, is a charming seaside town that’s perfect for a relaxed day trip or even a weekend visit. Perched on the dramatic chalk cliffs of Normandy’s coast, it is known for its colourful fishing harbour, sea views, and famous funicular railway.
We took a family day trip from our stay at Yelloh! Village Domaine de Drancourt and instantly fell in love with its blend of natural beauty and old-fashioned seaside charm. Whether you’re exploring the harbour, taking the funicular up the cliffs, or simply enjoying fresh seafood with a view, Le Tréport makes a wonderful family-friendly escape in Normandy. There is plenty for both kids and adults to enjoy.

Why Visit Le Tréport, France
If you’re looking to discover a charming seaside town with a touch of old-world character, Le Tréport is a hidden gem that’s perfect for you. Nestled on the edge of Normandy, this picturesque fishing port has something for everyone in the family.
We were staying at the Yelloh! Village Campsite, located in Domaine de Drancourt. From here, Le Tréport is only a 30-minute drive, so it made the perfect day trip. The town is compact enough to explore in a day, yet it also has plenty to do if you’d like to stay longer, which I will share more about below. So whether you’re visiting as part of a Normandy road trip or, like us, as a day trip from Yelloh! Village Domaine de Drancourt, Le Tréport, offers the perfect blend of sea air, stunning views, and local charm.
Practical Information for Visiting Le Tréport
Getting to Le Tréport
If you’re following our route and coming from Domaine de Drancourt, it’s a short, scenic 30-minute drive. Dieppe is another popular destination in Normandy, and driving from there will also take you approximately 30 minutes.
Or if you’re coming to Normandy from Paris, direct trains run from Paris Gare du Nord to Le Tréport–Mers station, which is conveniently located close to the seafront and town centre. This will take roughly 3 hours.
Parking in Le Tréport
There are multiple car parks in Le Tréport, and we found it easy to get a space. We parked in the Moto Carpark, which cost €0.70 for 30 minutes, then €1.40 per hour, to a maximum of €25 for 10 hours.

Things to Do in Le Tréport
We found plenty of things to do in Treport, even on a chilly, windy day!
Ride The Famous Le Tréport Funiculaire
The Le Tréport Funiculaire or Funicular Railway is the best thing to do in Le Tréport, plus it’s completely free! This funicular railway will take you to the top of the cliffs and back, and it is an activity the whole family can enjoy.
It’s a short journey, but one that is worth doing as the views from the top are incredible.
When we visited, it wasn’t busy, so we were able to have the whole carriage to ourselves. There were designated queues for wheelchairs and those with pushchairs.

Walk The Cliffs and Enjoy Amazing Views from the Top
Once you reach the top of the cliffs, you can enjoy the panoramic views, and you also have the option to go for a scenic walk along the top.
It was extremely windy when we were there, so we enjoyed the views and took the funicular back down, but it is possible to walk down (or up) via the steep stairs.

Stroll Along the Harbour
Le Tréport’s harbour is the heart of the town, lined with lots of little shops, restaurants and cafes. Walking around the harbour is a lovely thing to do in Tréport. You’ll likely see boats sailing along and maybe even fishermen unloading their catch.
Just a short walk from the harbour is the fish market. I am not a fish fan, so I didn’t go in!

Walk The Jetty to the Lighthouse
At the end of the jetty, you’ll see Tréport Lighthouse, which marks the entrance to the harbour for boats. You can walk right up to the lighthouse and watch the boats coming in and out, or see the people fishing from the pier.
There are also some canons at the entrance that children will love to climb on.

Throw Pebbles on the Beach
My children loved throwing pebbles from the beach into the sea. It’s a beautiful beach, so if you’re visiting without children, you can still enjoy a lovely walk along the seafront.
The beach is lined with a row of coloured beach huts and has the scenic cliffs behind it, so it is very picturesque.
In the summer months, the beach will be full of people relaxing and enjoying the sun. On the windy day we visited, it was almost deserted!

Playing on the Beach
Ride the Carousel
If you’re visiting Le Tréport with kids, there is an amazing double-decker carousel that they will love. This costs €2 per child, and adults can accompany young children for free.
They also had a few arcade-style games here.
Burn Energy in the Playground
My kids love a playground, of course, we couldn’t pass one without going in! The playground Jardin d’Enfants didn’t disappoint them. It has multiple areas suitable for children of different ages.

Enjoy the Miniature Tourist Train Ride
We didnt ride the train ourselves, but saw it parked by the funicular. This miniature train connects Treport with neighbouring towns, Eu and Mers-les-Bains. This would be great if you have a little longer to explore.
Prices start at €9 for an adult or €5 for a child ticket. From research, tickets need to be purchased in person; you can’t pre-book online.
Note: The train stops running from the middle of November to mid-February.
Where to Eat in Le Tréport
Like many French seaside towns, Le Tréport has no shortage of inviting cafés, brasseries, and seafood restaurants lining the harbour. Fresh fish and mussels feature on almost every menu (not ideal for a vegetarian like me). There was an Italian restaurant, but unfortunately, it was closed when we visited. You’ll also find a few cafes serving crêpes and waffles, which is what we chose.
During our visit, we stopped at Bar de L’Esplanade, a friendly café with a fantastic location overlooking the sea. It’s the perfect spot to take a break after riding the funicular or exploring the harbour. We enjoyed coffee and crêpes here.
Where to Stay in Le Tréport
If you’re looking to stay longer than a day in Le Tréport, I would stay at Hotel Le Saint-Yves. Located only a few minutes walk from the beach and harbour, it gives the perfect mix of affordable luxury. It is also perfect for families as they have suites available for up to four people.
Note: I have researched hotels for this post, but haven’t stayed in this one personally.
So, is Le Tréport worth visiting? If you’re in the Normandie area, then absolutely! Although it’s a small town, it has a wide range of things to do that the whole family can enjoy.
