Searching for Instagrammable locations in beautiful cities is one of my favourite things. Rome Instagram Spots You Won’t Want to Miss!

It won’t be hard to find Instagrammable places in Rome, they’re all over. The only issue is, Rome is an amazing city and gets extremely crowded. To get photos without other people in them, you will need to be up and out very early.

The Colosseum: The Most Instagrammable Place in Rome

Of course, the Colosseum is such an iconic landmark and probably the main thing you’re going to want to see in Rome.

One of the best best view of the Colosseum and the perfect place to take photos is the wall along the road Via Nicola Salvi (Google Map location linked here). This wall does attract crowds but people seem to move on quite quickly so, if you’re willing to wait a while, you should be able to get photos here. The wall also blocks anyone who might be in the background!

If you’re out super early, you could also try a shot from in front of Colosseum.

The Trevi Fountain: Rome’s Most Popular Instagram Location

The Trevi Fountain is another simply breathtaking location, it comes as no surprise that it is considered one of the top places when photographing Rome. I had read if you get there before 8 am, it would be pretty quiet. Well, below is a photo of the crowd at 8 am. You’ll need to be here much earlier to beat the crowds.

Although it was busy, it was still possible to get a close-up shot. You should also try the wall to the side, this is slightly quieter and like with The Colosseum, the wall blocks the crowds. Our photos maybe aren’t perfect but they’re still happy family memories.

The Spanish Steps: One of the Most Beautiful Streets in Rome

The Spanish Steps are another breathtaking backdrop for taking Instagram photos. Pre-kids, I would have been here first thing in a princess dress making a dramatic entrance. You’re probably not going to be able to get to every location early in the morning unless you live in Rome! As you can see The Spanish Steps are crowded in our photos.

Castle San’Angelo: A fairytale Instagram Location

Castel Sant’ Angelo is another of the best photo spots Rome. Located just a 10-minute walk from Vatican City. The most popular spot is on the St. Angelo Bridge in front of the castel. As you can see, it was covered in scaffolding which makes it not so Instagram-worthy, but you can still get a nice shot at the side of the castel or on the Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II Bridge with it in the background. This will be your best option if you’re not there so early!

The Vatican City

There are so many Instagram spots in Vatican City. We got here around 8:30 am and there were already people around but it wasn’t too crowded, in front of St Peter’s Basilica was surprisingly clear and this is a beautiful location for photos. There are also stunning fountains, columns and monuments that would all make perfect backdrops.

Inside the Basilica was very busy and the lighting wasn’t great so personally, I wouldn’t try to get Instagram photos in there!

The Roman Foram: Rome’s Best Historic Photo Location

The Roman Forum is located next to the Colosseum and entry to The Forum is included with Colosseum tickets. There are lots of great locations here.

It was extremely hot during our time here so we did not take any Instagram photos but it would be a good option as it’s a lot quieter than The Colosseum.

Monument to Victor Emmanuel: Rome’s Best Free Viewpoint

Did I mention there’s no shortage of beautiful buildings in Rome? This is another one of Rome’s stunning Instagram spots.

The front does get crowded but it is possible to capture a crowd-free photo if you time it right. Or consider going up to the viewpoint, (it’s free and not everyone realizes you can go in!) The views are incredible and it’s not so busy, making it one of the few Rome Instagram spots not everyone knows about!

Villa Borghese: The BEst Instagram Spot for Nature Lovers

If you like nature, then this is the place for you. It’s a beautiful park, it’s a bit of a hike up the hill but it is so worth it. You could take so much content here! it has epic views, beautiful buildings, pretty flowers and also a boating lake.

My kids loved the boating lake. They both wanted to hold an ore so getting anywhere or taking a photo without one of them going overboard was extremely difficult!

Other Instagrammable Places in Rome

There are also a few other spots to consider. The first photo below is on a road called Vicolo Di San Bernado (close to the Monument to Victor Emanuel II Building.) I think the church in the background is such a stunning building.

The Pantheon is popular but again crowded and the statue in front of it was surrounded by scaffolding. This photo (below middle) was taken before it opened and there was already a line of people.

Piazza Navona was also covered in scaffolding. It usually has 3 amazing fountains on display but they were all closed off. This building at the side of the square is still amazing and a perfect Instagram photo location. At 9 am the square was deserted, possibly when the fountains were open, it would be busier.
