Visiting the Bank of England Museum with kids is a fun activity and, surprisingly, a bit of a hidden gem in London! The Bank of England is an iconic part of the City of London, and the museum is located inside the bank itself. It’s free to visit, making it perfect for families to enjoy.
This museum is small but very interesting and has lots of activities that kids and grown-ups can all enjoy. Here is our review and tips for visiting the Bank of England Museum with children.

Good to Know Before You Visit the Bank of England Museum with Kids
Below is some information that is helpful to know before your family trip to the Bank of England museum.
Getting To The Bank of England Museum
The address is: Bartholomew Lane, London, EC2R 8AH. As it’s in Central London, it’s very easy to get to. Bank underground/ DLR are the closest options (both have step-free access for pushchairs/ strollers). It’s also within walking distance of London Bridge Train Station.
Do You Need Tickets for the Bank of England Museum?
No, the museum is completely free to visit! You can just turn up; no advanced booking or tickets are needed. However, do note: The museum is only open from 10 am to 5 pm on weekdays. It is closed on weekends and Bank Holidays.
Accessibility at the Bank of England Museum for Families with Pushchairs (Strollers)
This museum is sadly not the most pushchair-friendly. There are a few steps in the museum. When we visited, there were accessible ramps in place. These looked temporary and may have been because a wheelchair user was also visiting the museum at the time. The accessibility issue is a real shame, but I will share tips for visiting the Bank of England Museum with children in a pushchair/stroller below.
Can you eat at the Museum?
There is no cafe or restaurant in the museum, but there are plenty of places close by where you can buy food. If the weather is nice, many people sit and eat in the courtyard in front of the Bank of England on Threadneedle Street.

Review and Tips for Visiting the Bank of England Museum with Kids
Maybe you’re wondering if the Bank of England Museum is good for kids? I’d definitely say it is! While it may be better suited ot children older than mine (two boys under 5), we had a really great time exploring the Bank of England Museum as a family (including Nana!) Although it’s small, it certainly is an interesting museum for both kids and parents!
There are lots of interactive activities, such as trying to crack open a safe, balancing a level, to ‘control inflation’ and lifting a real gold bar. You can also see displays featuring old coins and bank notes, and even printing presses!
Visiting the Bank of England museum with kids was both a fun and educational experience. Below are a few additional tips to enjoy this hidden gem as a family!
1. Go without or take a Small Pushchair (Stroller)
I mentioned above that accessibility is a slight issue. The security guard helped us up the front steps. Then my UppaBaby Vista (which I love) didn’t fit through the door. They had to open the double middle door especially to let us in. Throughout the museum, there are quite a few steps, some of the rooms are very small, and there’s not anywhere convenient to leave a pushchair. If it’s possible, don’t take a pushchair or if you need to, take a small one. I also love my Joolz Aer+, which would have been so much better for this museum visit.
2. Don’t Visit Alone with Two Kids Under Five
That sounds more dramatic than it is! I’m a stay-at-home London mum, so I’m used to going out on my own with two kids under 5. Although we enjoyed our visit here, I found it quite hard work and was grateful to have my mum there to help me!
Watching a toddler, holding a baby and pushing a pushchair through small crowded spaces was tough! However, don’t let that put you off; overall, this is still a fun and educational outing in London for kids.

3. Visit the Information Desk for a Free, Fun Kids Activity Sheet
As you enter, you’ll pass the information desk, stop here and get an activity sheet. They have different options for different ages. We did the special Easter one, but the usual one for little kids is an eye spy game. My eldest (aged 4 years old) loved doing the worksheet, and it kept him engaged throughout the museum.
4. Don’t Miss Seeing the Real Gold Bar
Yes, there is a real gold bar in the museum! This is a must-do when visiting the Bank of England Museum with children! It’s worth £380,000, so of course, it is in a protective box, but there is a hand hole so you can try to lift it. This is one of the museum highlights, but it’s not that obvious, so make sure you don’t miss it!

Thank you for reading this review on visiting the Bank of England Museum with kids. I hope it has helped you plan your visit and you enjoy this unique London attraction!
