A FAMILY-FRIENDLY LONDON MUSEUM GUIDE
The Bank of England is an iconic part of the City of London. The museum is located inside the bank itself and it’s a free London museum that is perfect for families to enjoy. Here is our detailed guide on planning a Bank of England Museum trip with little ones. We’ll cover tips on how to enjoy the Bank of England museum with kids and everything you need to know before you go.
The museum is a hidden gem in the City of London. It is small but very interesting and has quite a few activities the kids and grownups can all enjoy. It’s worth visiting if you get the chance. My 4-year-old loved it here and my 1-year-old just loves to look around at everything. Read on for all the details.

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Getting There: The address is Bartholomew Lane, London, EC2R 8AH. As it’s in Central London, it’s very easy to get to. Bank underground/ DLR are the closest options (both have step-free access for pushchairs/ strollers). It’s also within walking distance of London Bridge Train Station.
Entry: Completely free! You can just turn up, no advanced booking or tickets are needed. The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm on weekdays. It is closed on weekends and Bank Holidays.
Accessibility: This museum is sadly NOT very pushchair-friendly. There are quite a few steps in the museum. When we visited, there were accessible ramps in place. These looked temporary and may have been because a wheelchair user was also visiting the museum at the time. The accessibility issue is a real shame and I will share tips for visiting the Bank of England Museum with a pushchair/stroller below.
Eating: There is no cafe or restaurant in the museum but there are plenty of places close by where you can buy food. If the weather is nice, many people sit and eat in the courtyard in front of The Bank of England on Threadneedle Street.
TIPS FOR VISITING THE BANK OF ENGLAND MUSEUM WITH KIDS
1. GO WITHOUT / TAKE A SMALL PUSHCHAIR (STROLLER)
I mentioned above accessibility is an issue. The security guard helped us up the front steps. Then my UppaBaby Vista (which I love) didn’t fit through the door. They had to open the double middle door especially. Throughout the museum, there are quite a few steps, some of the rooms are very small and there’s not anywhere convenient to leave a pushchair. If it’s possible, don’t take a pushchair or if you need to, take a small one. I also love my Joolz Aer+ which would have been so much better for this occasion.
2. DON’T GO ALONE
That sounds more dramatic than it is! I’m a stay-at-home mum in the city so I’m used to going out on my own with two kids under 5. Although we enjoyed our visit here, I found it quite hard work and was grateful to have my mum there to help me!
Watching a toddler, holding a baby and pushing a pushchair through small crowded spaces was tough! However, don’t let that put you off, overall, this is still a fun and educational outing in London for kids.
3. VISIT THE INFORMATION DESK
As you enter, you’ll pass the information desk, you can stop and get an activity sheet. They have different options for different ages. We did the special Easter one but the usual one for little kids is an eye spy game. Freddie (age 4) loved doing the activity sheet and it kept him engaged throughout the museum.
4. DON’T MISS THE REAL GOLD BAR
Yes, there is a real gold bar in the museum! This is a must-do when visiting the Bank of England Museum with children! It’s worth £380,000 so of course, it is in a protective box but there is a hand hole so you can try to lift it. This is one of the museum highlights but it’s not that obvious so make sure you don’t miss it!
Thank you for reading this guide on the Bank of England Museum with kids. I hope it has helped you plan your visit and you enjoy this unique London attraction!
