Are you planning a trip to Louisiana and hoping to discover the most Instagrammable places in New Orleans? It may be known for its party scene, but there’s also so much culture to be discovered. It is one of the most beautiful places we’ve visited during our time in the USA, and it is packed with picture-perfect photo spots!
In this guide, I’ll be telling you where to find all the amazing New Orleans Instagram spots you won’t want to miss. I’ve split them into different areas, which will make planning your photo locations easier for you!

The Most Instagrammable Places in New Orleans – The French Quarter
1. Beautiful Balconies – The Corner of Royal and St Peter Streets
You’ll find stunning, ornate balconies on almost every corner of the French Quarter. These are some of the best photo spots in New Orleans and the perfect place to capture memories from your trip.
The most famous of these balconies is on The Corner of Royal and St Peter Streets. This is quite possibly the most photographed location in New Orleans due to the many hanging baskets decorating it. I was slightly disappointed by this location, but the hanging baskets weren’t in full bloom. I’ve seen other photos that look much more spectacular.

2. More Beautiful Balconies – Saint Louis and Dauphine Streets
Another New Orleans balcony that makes the perfect Instagram backdrop is on the corner of Saint Louis and Dauphine Streets. This one was my personal favourite of all the corners we saw. It is similar to the one I previously mentioned, but a nicer colour (in my opinion) and not quite as busy.

3. Jackson Square
One of the most iconic and Instagrammable spots in New Orleans, Jackson Square is hard to miss. This historic park is surrounded by beautiful buildings, colourful flowers and the distinctive wrought-iron balconies that New Orleans is famous for.
It’s particularly photogenic with the St. Louis Cathedral rising behind it, and the square is often filled with artists, musicians and street performers, adding to the lively atmosphere. For the classic New Orleans photo, head towards the river and capture the square with the cathedral in the background.

4. St Louis Cathedral
Beautifully positioned at the edge of Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral is one of the most recognisable landmarks in New Orleans and makes a beautiful backdrop for photos. Its distinctive white façade, three towers and symmetrical design are particularly striking against the colourful architecture surrounding it.
Walk around Jackson Square to find different angles, or head towards the Mississippi River for a wider view of the cathedral and square together. It’s one of those New Orleans photo spots that is worth seeing both during the day and after dark when the cathedral is beautifully illuminated.

Hidden New Orleans Photo Spots in the French Quarter
I highly recommend you venture off the main touristy streets of the French Quarter. You’ll come across some charming locations which are much quieter but also very picturesque.
The two below were my favourites. I happened to come across them both when taking my son to the playground close by. The second one is one of my all-time most-liked Instagram posts!
5. 1215 Dauphine Street
If you’re looking for a quieter photo spot in the French Quarter, make your way to 1215 Dauphine Street. Away from the crowds of Bourbon and Royal Streets, this charming corner has all the colourful architecture and character you’d expect from New Orleans, but without quite so many people getting in your photos.
It’s a great spot to add to your French Quarter wander, particularly if you’re looking for those pretty, lesser-known streets that show off the neighbourhood’s unique character.

6. 923 Barracks Street
Another hidden gem that’s well worth seeking out is 923 Barracks Street. Tucked away from the busiest parts of the French Quarter, this is a lovely example of the historic residential architecture that makes wandering these quieter streets so enjoyable.
The building has a much more understated feel than some of the French Quarter’s famous landmarks, making it a great spot for a more authentic New Orleans photo. Amazing New Orleans Photo Spots – The Garden District
If you’re looking for gorgeous dream houses, the Garden District is the place for you! This is a very aesthetic place for a walk. I was keen to find all the pink houses, but there are other colours and more neutral places to suit everyone’s theme! I have listed my favourites below.
During our visit, this area was much quieter than the French Quarter, which is perfect for photography.
7. Carroll-Crawford House: 1315 First Street
This spectacular pink, real-life Malibu Barbie dream house was at the top of my must-visit list! Any pink lover will want to take photos here. Looking for more pink buildings in New Orleans? Find them all in this guide.

8. Carroll-Crawford House Coach House: next to 2333 Chestnut Street
If this house wasn’t instagrammable enough, they also have a Coach House. It is located around the corner from the main house and is the same pink colour.

More Instagrammable Places in New Orleans
9. Canal Street
Sunshine and palm trees, what could be more Instagram-worthy? Located right on the edge of the French Quarter, you’ll find Canal Street.
The red streetcar trolleys run up and down here, so if you can time it right, you might get one in the background of your photos. Just be careful not to get in their way!

10. City Park
If you hop on one of those red trolleys you see on Canal Street, you can get to City Park. It is beautiful, and there are so many Instagrammable photo opportunities here, especially if you’re a nature lover!
Personally, I’m a city girl, so all the locations I chose reflect this. Of course, there are lots of beautiful nature-inspired backdrops here as well!

11. With Love from Nola Sign
Even if you’re not taking photos for the gram, taking a photo here is a great way to remember your trip!
I had to take one with my son, who was more interested in trying to dig the plants with his truck than posing for Instagram!

New Orleans is one of those cities where beautiful photo opportunities seem to be around every corner. From the colourful streets and iconic balconies of the French Quarter to the grand architecture of the Garden District, there are plenty of Instagrammable places in New Orleans to discover.
While the famous spots such as Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral are definitely worth visiting, don’t be afraid to wander a little further and look for the hidden gems too. Some of my favourite New Orleans photo spots were the ones we stumbled across while simply exploring the city.
