MONTENEGRO TRAVEL GUIDE
Montenegro is an absolutely beautiful country with some incredibly scenic spots. In this post, I’m going to share with you the most breathtaking viewpoints in Montenegro that you’ll definitely not want to miss.
We visited Montenegro in April 2024 as a family (our boys were aged 4 and 14 months). We had an amazing time and I’m sure you will as well.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VIEWPOINTS IN MONTENEGRO:
LAKE SKADAR
This has to be one of the best panoramic views in Montenegro. This stunning view can be seen from the viewpoint called “Pavlova Strana” in the small area of Virpazar. You’ll also get more amazing views during the scenic drive here.
Another great viewpoint of this mountain is from the Lake itself. We took a boat tour of the lake and I’d highly recommend it, I’ve linked it below.

THE BLACK LAKE, DURMITOR NATIONAL PARK
Tucked away in the North of Montenegro is the Black Lake (also called Crno Jezero), which is another breathtaking viewpoint in Montenegro. Photos just don’t do it justice, to see it covered in snow was truly beautiful. Some memories will just stay with you forever, this is one of them for me.
If you’re looking for a hike in Montenegro with panoramic views, then this is a good one. Note, that it was described online as an easy walk, as a family with two small children (and snow and ice) we didn’t find it that easy!

THE TARA BRIDGE AND CANYON
Also located in the North of Montenegro is the Tara Bridge. Looking over the bridge, you see the Tara River with the most brilliant blue-coloured water, even on the rainy day that we visited, I can only imagine it in the sunshine.
This is a must-see landscape when you’re in Montenegro.

TIVAT’S COASTLINE
For me, this is the best viewpoint along the Bay of Kotor. The view of these palm trees and water (middle photo) in the centre of Tivat is just perfection.
If you walk the coastline, from Porto Montenegro in Tivat towards a restaurant called Big Ben (about 15 minutes walk) you’ll be treated to these incredible sea and mountain coastal views. These are some of my favourite photos from our whole Montenegro Trip.

THE CITADEL IN BUDVA
If, like me, you love a city view, then this one is not to be missed. You’ll find this hidden viewpoint in Montenegro with stunning views at The Citadel, Budva.
This was our highlight of visiting Budva and costs just €5 to enter (kids are free). This is a bargain compared to the €35 it costs to walk the Dubrovnik city walls and the orange brick rooftops are very similar.
SEE OUR QUICK GUIDE TO BUDVA HERE.

SVETI STEFAN
Although we didn’t explore this town, I couldn’t resist a quick stop at this amazing viewpoint on the way from Budva to Lake Skadar.
There are a few different viewpoints that will give you views of Sveti Stefan. This one is labelled “Sveti Stefan Great View” on Google Maps.
My husband took this photo from the car window as our baby was asleep in the back, this was another winding but very scenic drive.
Thank you so much for reading this guide, I hope we’ve helped you discover where to find the best viewpoints in Montenegro and you’ll add some of them to your itinerary!
