WHY I CHOSE THE JOOLZ AER+
Are you shopping for a new travel stroller and struggling to decide? Let me tell you how I decided whether to get the Joolz Aer+ or the YOYO Babyzen.
Firstly, both these strollers are pretty expensive. Do you really need one? Honestly, the Joolz Aer+ has been well worth the money for us. If you travel a lot, then I think it’s worth the expense. Further down this post, I will give you a secret tip to make it more affordable!

WHY I CHOSE THE JOOLZ AER+
The YOYO was the original travel stroller, lightweight and folds super small to fit in the overhead storage on the plane. It has been doing its job well since it was released in 2012. There’s no doubt it is a great travel stroller and I mean no offence to anyone who uses it. However, I feel it has become a bit dated.
The Joolz Aer was first launched in 2021 and the Bugaboo Butterfly in 2022. I feel these are both newer and better options. To me, they both look much more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable for your little one!
The YOYO is notorious for the wheels breaking. I often see them around the city, and the wheels are shaking as they’re pushed. The Aer+ glides so smoothly.
Also, the Aer+ has a slightly taller back, which means it will fit your child longer. My 3.5-year-old can comfortably sit in it with room to spare.
Side Note: I deliberated between the Aer+ and Butterfly for a while. They are very similar. My decision was made as at the time I was purchasing the Butterfly had a 5-week wait and the Aer+ was available immediately. I also had a Bugaboo Cameleon in the past and it was the worst stroller I have ever used!
Stored on the luggage rack on an AMTRAK Train – Folded up with the board attached (the seat can fit in the basket) – Reclined with the board attached.
BENEFITS OF THE JOOLZ AER+
There are so many benefits to the Joolz Aer+ which I will discuss below:
- It’s very lightweight and lighter than both the YOYO and Butterfly. It glides along easily when you push it, even if you only use one hand.
- It has a one-handed fold/ unfold design which is very easy after a couple of practices. The Butterfly also has this, but you will need both hands for the YOYO.
- The seat is sturdy and comfortable, both my 3.5-year-old and my 4-month-old rode in it comfortably. (It does say suitable for age 6m+ but my baby was very happy in it, so use your judgement.)
- The storage basket is small compared to our UppaBaby Vista but a good size compared to similar fold-up strollers. It’s also easy to access.
- It can fully recline for nap time or be at an angle.
- Fits in the plane overhead storage for travel. We’ve used it on many flights now and never had a problem!
- A handy storage bag is included. The bag is perfect to take on the plane with.
- It also comes with a 10-year transferable guarantee. Meaning if you hand down or sell after 4 years, the new owner will get the remaining 6 years of the guarantee! This is a huge benefit that competitors don’t offer.
- There is an option to add a footboard. In full honesty, the footboard lets the design down slightly but it’s not a great feature on any travel stroller. As the Aer is so easy to push, this has still worked for us really well.
- There is also an option to buy a bassinet. Although I didnt try this personally.
- The fabric is water-resistant and is made from recycled materials.
- It comes in a variety of colour options so there should be something to suit everyone. The Bugaboo had very limited colours.
HOW TO GET A DISCOUNT ON THE BUGABOO BUTTERFLY, JOOLZ AER+ OR THE YOYO BABYZEN
These strollers rarely go on sale. They’re also usually excluded from promotional offers.
It is possible to get the Joolz Aer at a discount (it’s the older model to the Aer+) It is very similar but slightly heavier. This would be a great option if you’re unsure how much use you’ll get out of it.
Luckily, I have a tip for you. If you purchase through Bloomingdales, sign up for their loyalty program. It is FREE to sign up and you earn pints every time you shop. From the purchase of our Aer+, I got enough points for a $100 Bloomingdales gift card, which you can spend on anything at Bloomingdales!
This tip works on any items you buy from Bloomingdales!
