Brooklyn Botanic Garden With Kids: Family Fun And Beautiful Cherry Blossom

Brooklyn Botanic Garden With Kids: Discovery Garden and Cherry Blossoms

Visiting the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with kids is one of the loveliest ways to spend a family day out in New York City. We visited as I wanted to see the cherry blossoms. We had planned to check out the blossoms and then move on to somewhere more child-friendly, but we ended up spending the full day here and wishing we had longer!

With wide-open spaces and hands-on gardens designed especially for children, plus seasonal highlights like cherry blossoms, it’s a peaceful escape that the whole family can enjoy. Whether you’re local or visiting NYC with kids, this guide covers everything you need to know about visiting the Brooklyn Botanic Garden as a family.

What is The Best Time of Year to Visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Although the gardens are open year-round, the best time to visit is when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom! It is truly beautiful! If you’re hoping to see the cherry blossoms, they typically bloom around the end of April.

However, with great beauty comes great crowds! When we visited, the blossoms were busy, but the rest of the site wasn’t too crowded!

Brooklyn Botanic Garden with Kids

There is plenty to do at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with kids! First, we walked around the pond, which isn’t specifically a children’s activity, but my 4-year-old enjoyed climbing on the rocks here while our baby napped.

The Discovery Garden

The Discovery Garden is the perfect place for kids to learn about nature through play. This area is so beautifully designed for young children, and our 4-year-old had the best time exploring there.

The Children’s Garden

There are so many interactive activities, including a dipping pond, musical instruments and touch and feel games. These are all perfect to keep young children entertained!

The Brooklyn Botanical Garden also has a children’s garden. This is a special garden that offers children’s classes for ages 2 and above. These classes need to be booked in advance and run on a weekly basis.

Brooklyn Botanical Garden Cherry Blossom

The Cherry Esplanade is one of the most beautiful sights, and I would highly recommend it. At just 2 months old, our baby was still very sleepy during our visit. Our three and a half year old also had a great time running through the blossom trees and climbing the ‘zig-zag hill’.

It is very crowded here (I edited a few people out of the back of these pictures), but we managed to get some lovely family photos!
