Fussy Deodorant Review: It’s Eco-Friendly But Does It Work?

Are you looking for an honest Fussy deodorant review? I’ve been slowly switching over to more clean living and eco-friendly products in our home, from plastic-free cleaning sprays to bamboo toilet paper. It has been a gradual process. One of the swaps I was most curious (and honestly, a little nervous) about was deodorant. After some research, I decided to give Fussy a try. It’s refillable, plastic and aluminium-free, and made right here in the UK, so it ticks all the right boxes on paper.

But does Fussy deodorant actually work? In this honest review, I’ll share how I got on, what I loved, what didn’t quite work for me, and whether I think it’s worth the money, especially if you’re considering the switch to a waste-free or natural deodorant.

What is Fussy Deodorant

Fussy is a UK-based brand that makes refillable, plastic-free deodorant designed to reduce waste without compromising on style or quality. The idea is simple: you buy a reusable case in the colour of your choice, then top it up with refills that arrive through your letterbox. The empty refill packages are compostable, so they are eco-friendly. It’s designed as a subscription model, but you can now also purchase it in many major retailers.

Fussy deodorant is aluminium-free, which means it doesn’t block your sweat glands like traditional antiperspirants. This was a major selling point for me, as I’m trying to become as toxic-free as possible! Instead of aluminium, it uses natural ingredients like magnesium hydroxide to neutralise odour and arrowroot powder to help absorb moisture.

The brand is also cruelty-free and vegan. Plus, its packaging is fully recyclable or compostable, so it really embraces an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Why I Chose Fussy

I’ve been trying to make sure our household is as sustainable as possible. I also want to make sure we use as many natural, toxic-free products as possible. Many regular deodorants contain aluminium and, even without further research, this doesn’t sound like something that you should be putting on your skin.

Fussy and Wild deodorants are the best-known brands for natural, eco-friendly deodorants. From research, Fussy seemed to be generally favoured in reviews. How Does the Price Compare

The recommended retail price for Fussy Deodorants is £10 for the case and £6 for each refill.

Alternatively, you can subscribe and save – a case and one refil with come to £10.20 with the code AFFAJM15FUS. Just remember to amend or cancel the subscription if you need to.

You can get a similar stick-style deodorant by Dove at Boots for as little as £2, while some stick deodorants on the Boots website cost up to £5. So, compared to these, Fussy is pretty expensive.

To continue paying this much more, I would really want a superior product. I am surprised by how many harsh chemicals are used in many beauty products, and I’m really trying to cut down on using these as much as possible.

Honest Fussy Deodorant Review

Here are all my completely honest thoughts on Fussy deodorant – this blog post isn’t sponsored by Fussy in any way, and I paid for the products I tried myself.

Packaging & Design

My Fussy order came in a cardboard (plastic-free) box that can be easily recycled. The case is a sleek design, and there are multiple colours to choose from.

The overall size is quite a bit larger than the Dove stick deodorant I previously had. This isn’t ideal for packing light when travelling. Fussy does offer 3 travel-sized sticks for £10 plus shipping.

Overall, I like the design. It’s a nice colour and is easy to insert the refills.

The case is reusable and seems like it will stand the test of time. The refill packs are fully compostable, so this really is a waste-free deodorant!

Application & Scents

I chose three different scents to try: Jasmine Bloom, Coconut Milk and Cloud Nine. They all smell nice, none are strong, and I don’t notice the scent when I’m wearing them. (For me, this is both a pro and a con!)

They are easy to apply and dry quickly.

Effectiveness

Do Fussy deodorants work? I really wanted to love these products, but honestly, they don’t work as well as my previous (not clean or environmentally friendly) Dove stick deodorant that only cost £2.50.

With my Dove deodorant, it still smells fresh at the end of the day. The scent of Fussy deodorants is not very strong, and by the end of the day, they certainly dont have the same fresh scent. I’ve also found clothes need washing at the end of every day, whereas previously, I could have easily worn things at least twice.

If you suffer from bad body odour, this is not the product for you!

Price & Value

As I already mentioned, the cost of Fussy deodorants is higher than their standard drug-store competitors. While I love the design and that this is an eco product, for me, it doesn’t work as well, so it is not worth paying a premium price for.

Would I Recommend Fussy?

I absolutely love the concept of Fussy, but as it just doesn’t work as well for me, I unfortunately can’t really recommend it.

However, deodorants are quite a personal product; just because it doesn’t work for me, it doesn’t necessarily mean it wouldn’t work for you.

After ruling out Fussy as an option for me, I picked up a Mitchum Natural Power Gel Cream, which is made form 96% natural ingredients, and I have been really pleased with it. Unfortunately, it is not an eco product. So, I will certainly try Wild deodorant or maybe a lesser-known brand to compare at some point.
