Halloween is a big deal in NYC, and the Upper East Side Halloween decorations will not disappoint you! One of the best Halloween things to do in New York is just to wander the streets and look for the spookily decorated Halloween houses. I’ve spent two years living in NYC, and I’m always so impressed by all the Halloween displays. In this guide, you’ll discover where to see all the best Halloween decorations on the Upper East Side of New York City.
I’m lucky enough to live on the Upper East Side, and I really think it is the best New York neighbourhood for Halloween decorations! To make it even better, you’re able to see it all for free, just by walking around the locations below.
From my experience, the same houses go all out every year, but full disclosure, I can’t guarantee these will all be here or be the same every year!

What Date do Halloween Decorations Come Out in NYC
Some decorations will appear at the beginning of October. Others will be slightly later, but most of the big displays will be up sometime in the first two weeks of October.
Where to Find the Best Upper East Side Halloween Decorations
The list below will tell you exactly where to find the best Halloween displays on the Upper East Side. I’ve started from the lowest street and worked up. This will help you plan your route map.
I’ve also shared a handy Google Map below; the orange pins with the white stars show the streets with the best spooky stoops.
East 64TH Street – Between Fifth and Madison Avenues
This is my absolute favourite Halloween house on the Upper East Side. Actually, it stretches across two houses, and the owners certainly go all out. They do change the display slightly every year, but it is always impressive!
The decorations actually move if you press the button on the floor next to them. The attention to detail here is just stunning.

East 70TH Street – Between Park and Lexington Avenues
The decoration on this house is so “Spooky Chic”. The shiny black pumpkins and skeletons are about as classy as Halloween can get! It’s definitely worth stopping by and checking this one out!

East 71ST Street – Between Park and Lexington Avenues
This house wins the award for the creepiest Halloween decorations on the Upper East Side. I am rather freaked out by it myself! You can see on the side of the gate there is a gold lever; when pulled, it makes the ghouls move and make scary noises.
So much work has gone into creating this NYC Halloween house street decoration! Yes, reminder: these are all people’s houses!!

East 74TH Street – Between Madison and Park Avenues
This is one of the best Upper East Side streets to find epic Halloween displays. There are three houses there that are decorated extravagantly.
Firstly, this house number 39 seems to have combined cute and spooky perfectly. The creepy railing display is pretty extra.

39 East 74th Street.
Secondly, I feel this house, number 34, would have had a bit of a spooky vibe without even adding any Halloween decorations. The decorations match the look of the house perfectly.

34 East 74th Street.
Finally, on the same street, is another one that is a bit on the creepy side. As I said, definitely worth visiting this block if you want to see great Upper East Side Halloween decorations.

East 76TH Street – Between Fifth and Madison Avenues
This is another good block to come to on your search for Halloween Houses.
This first house was initially just decorated with pumpkins and flowers. Closer to Halloween, they added the scary ghouls that move and make noises. I think I liked it more without them! The witch also moves and makes scary sounds!
This is the most epic Halloween house on the Upper East Side. If you only see one, it should be this one!

Next on this spooky street is this house with a larger-than-life skeleton. It was about twice the size of me! The decorations continue up the house, and photos really don’t do it justice.

East 82ND Street – Between Third and Park Avenues
This stoop is absolutely covered in spooky decorations. I love the play on words, changing Upper East Side to Upper East Died.
I wonder how the owners even get into this house? My best guess is that they have to use the service entrance!

Final Thoughts on the Best Halloween Decorations on the Upper East Side
If you’re looking for some of the best Halloween decorations in NYC, I highly recommend taking a walk around the Upper East Side. The neighbourhood’s beautiful brownstones and stoops provide the perfect backdrop for everything from spooky skeletons and giant spiders to elaborate, family-friendly Halloween displays.
The best part is that you don’t need to visit a particular attraction or buy a ticket; you can simply grab a coffee, put on your walking shoes and explore the streets at your own pace. It’s a fun and completely free way to experience Halloween in New York City, and there are plenty of great photo opportunities along the way.
Decorations can change from year to year, so I’ll continue to update this guide with new addresses and displays. If you’re visiting NYC around Halloween, save the map, allow yourself a couple of hours to explore and see how many of these wonderfully spooky Upper East Side houses and stoops you can find!
